Tiberiu Dragoș Oprea is a conductor born into a family of musicians. He began his career as a violinist and made his conducting debut in 1997. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in orchestral conducting at the National University of Music in Bucharest, studying under Ludovic Bacs. Ten years after his debut, he became co-founder and principal conductor of the Pitești Philharmonic, a role for which he was awarded the “Excellence Award”.
Between 2009 and 2018, he served as conductor of the Ion Dacian National Operetta and Musical Theatre in Bucharest, where he led numerous premieres, performances, and gala concerts. He is a regular guest conductor with many Romanian orchestras and has collaborated with ensembles including the Transilvania Philharmonic (Cluj-Napoca), as well as the philharmonic orchestras of Timișoara, Brașov, Oradea, Arad, and Bucharest.
In 2018, marking Romania’s Centenary, he conducted a commemorative concert dedicated to the music of Sabin Drăgoi with the Radio Chamber Orchestra, receiving the “Centenary Order” for this event. His international appearances include conducting the closing concert of the Guitar Art Festival in Belgrade, as well as performances in Matera (European Capital of Culture 2019), Germany, and Austria.
His artistic work is characterized by refined musical sensitivity, solid technique, and a distinctive conducting style.
